How it works & your privacy

Walk of Fame turns your step history into an animated story. Everything happens inside this page, on your device.

What it reads

  • Step counts, walking distance and flights climbed, with their dates and times of day.
  • The dates of walking, running and hiking workouts.

What it ignores

  • Heart rate, sleep, ECG, medications, mindfulness, cycle tracking, clinical records, workout routes and everything else in your export. These pass through the reader and are discarded.

Where your data goes

  • Nowhere. There is no upload, no account, no database and no cookies. Close the tab and it's gone.
  • The file is read straight from your device in small pieces, so even a multi-gigabyte export doesn't need to fit in memory.
Test it yourself: load this page, switch on airplane mode, then pick your file. It still works, because nothing needs the internet. (Only the fonts load online.)

How duplicates are handled

If you wear an Apple Watch, carry an iPhone and use a WHOOP, they all record the same walking. We keep only the highest source for each 5-minute window, ignore once-a-day summary totals, and skip steps typed in by hand, so nothing is counted twice.

Local facts

Your ZIP code is looked up in a table bundled with the page. It is never sent anywhere. Share images show your city, never your ZIP code.

Estimates

Energy (iPhone charges), time on feet and distance comparisons use rough, public averages. They're for fun, not medicine.

Get your Apple Health data

It takes about 5 minutes, mostly waiting. You'll get a file called export.zip. You do not need to unzip it.

On your iPhone

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap your profile picture (top right corner). On some versions, tap Summary first.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Export All Health Data.
  4. Tap Export. The phone prepares the file. This can take a few minutes if you've used Health for years. Keep the screen on.
  5. When the share sheet appears, choose Save to Files (or AirDrop it to your Mac, or Mail/Messages it to yourself).

Bring it here

  1. Easiest, on a computer: open this page, tap Use my Apple Health export and choose export.zip.
  2. On the phone itself: open this page in Safari, tap Use my Apple Health export, then Choose File and pick export.zip from Files. Large exports can be slow on a phone, so a computer is better.
  3. You'll see a progress bar. A typical multi-year export finishes in under a minute.
  4. Optionally add your first name and ZIP code under Make it yours, then tap Play my story.

If something goes wrong

  • "Couldn't find export.xml": pick the original export.zip, or the export.xml inside it.
  • The page runs out of memory: close other tabs, or use Chrome or Edge on a computer.
  • Missing recent steps: open Health on the phone for a minute so it syncs, then export again.
  • Numbers look too low or high: the export includes every device. We merge them automatically so nothing double-counts.
